What would you do if you bought an expensive gift for a significant other
but broke up before you could give it to them?
This is a situation my cousin is dealing with right now.
Here is a basic background:
They started dating.
He moved to Texas.
My cousin stayed in California.
They broke up.
That's pretty much it.
Except, before they broke up, he bought her
a pair of her dream Uggs.
Weird, I know.
Who still wears Uggs?!
Anyways, he bought them for Christmas
and she thinks he should still give them to her even though
they broke up because he bought them when they were together.
So, what's the protocol when it comes to pre-breakup gifts?
Does the person still deserve to get it?
Does it matter if they broke up with you
or if you broke up with them?
Should anyone still be wearing Uggs in California?
I think if the break up was amicable and the gift
meant something at the time, why not pass it along?
They can choose to keep it or regift!
Or just give it back...
Now, if it was a horrible break up,
I say take that shit back!
Get your money back and donate it
because no one wants a gift that reminds them of their ex.
Thus, giving the money away will create a clean slate.
Lucky for my cousin,
she got a nice package delivered to her this week.
And this is the text message she sent me -
"Told you! He just dropped them off...No dirty business, but my feet at super warm!"
I didn't ask what dirty business was,
but I did ask how she felt about the situation -
"Damn son, feeling like an INDEPENDENT woman!"
So what would you do -
Take em back, give them away or hold on to the gift?
You know, just in case you get back together one day.
Cause 3rd times a charm, right?
